Can I Write Myself (Out Of The Story)

It’s always the silence
that makes me wonder
thoughts of worth,
fighting chivalrously
against worthlessness,
but always loosing.

It’s always the darkness
that makes me notice
I can no longer see,
though it can be said
that is a mixed blessing,
in front of a mirror.

It’s always the loneliness
that makes me remember
the opportunities missed,
the biggest ones in your life
that haunts and tortures,
with a barrage of what-ifs.

It is always this story
that makes me wonder
why write such a character,
twisted and broken,
by the limitless burdens
of its own hate?

A very dark and thought provoking piece.

The repetition of "It's always the...." at the beginning of each stanza works really well. It makes it even more impacting and haunting.

I think a lot of people will be able to relate to this poem on many levels. We have all experienced a time in our lives when we have questioned things, and Im sure we all have those dreaded "what ifs" lurking in our minds.

    Engrossing read.

    'It’s always the silence
    that makes me wonder'

I loved how you began each stanza with a vague idea and then added[described] it as you went on.
