Santa got a letter
it was addressed from Iraq,
From a young soldier
upon this letter tear tracks.
Lord it began I have but one wish,
for this war to be over and peace
you shall give .
I bow my weary head on this
Christmas eve,
Lord forgive us all for our failures
for this world is in such need.
Santa saw a list there
beneath his words of those lost,
and he said Dear Lord please
hold with care
they payed a great cost .
And he placed a little cross
by each name with care,
and a tear drop full of his love
was there .
If the world today feels pain,
kneel and whisper a prayer in vain.
For we see nothing those men live
from day to day ,
just to see our lives are safe .
Now as you think about this,
tell me will you help them today.
For they are giving their all ,
to keep us safe.
Will we in this country not do
our part ,
and to each and every citizen
show some heart .
For wars are stemmed from
disagreements and hate ,
tell me why cant we close old
miseries gate .
Find the way to peace and bring
our boys home,
for out there on the field this
christmas they are so alone.
Cry out to one another and say
why not today,
and bring this world back on
its feet I would say.
Now look into your childrens eyes,
know the parents are the ones will
you save his life.
Will you continue to fight and care
not of his future to be,
will you lay down old misery and set
your children free.
Lord it began I have but one wish,
for this war to be over and peace you shall give.
I bow my weary head on this Christmas Eve,
Lord forgive us for our failures
for our world is in such need ,
Author notes
May God be with them always to hear their prayers above all others to keep them safe

A very touching poem. Very unique with a different twist to the soldiers prayers (or letter) that I usually come across in poems based on soldiers. The reminder theis poem brings is a great one and one that should well be headed. Thank you for entering this in my contest, its definatly the type of entry I was looking for.

What a beautiful poem. You almost made me cry, and that's saying something.
I think people would be able to follow it better if you added some " " 's here and there, but that's personal oppion by the fact that I struggled to tell when the kid was saying something.
Still, I'm mad. This thing should have a gold beside it, though the bronze says that at least SOMEONE say the amazing write that I did.
God Bless you

Wow! This poem is so amazing and wonderful and beautiful. I am so speechless as I read it. How could someone not get tears in there eyes while reading this. I pray so hard for our men and women in uniform adn wish they could all be home for Christmas and the whole world just forget that this war continues on. Christmas is such a special time of the year, and it is really sad that people must risk there lives on Christmas. This is such a heartfelt poem filled with much truth. Such an emotional piece.

very good
"....Find the way to peace and bring
our boys home, ...."
thank you for a wonderful work of sharing your caring
i, too, often think,
wow, that person has such a nice green jacket
but
what about our boys in green over there
did they send something to them
or
do they unjust walk around the neighborhood to show off their new blue bag, orange jogging suit, oh, there goes a mets fan, etc?
you know, i wonder, with so much spent on the war
why can't we go there
take off the uniforms
get to work
build another american city there
then
"this is what we offer you"
i mean, are we to fight a war
ravage their home
and
then
well, if you start a democratic government, like ours, you can have the american dream
that's like ...,.
sorry, i didn't mean to gabel a lotto
but
noone wins in a war
sure, you can pin a flag to your lapel
stick a flag on your car window, sing "i'm a yankee doodle dandy"
but
you are not the one over there
let's bring them home
