Sore parts,
Stretchmarks,
Don't forget the gaining weight,
Being sick,
Feeling thick,
Hormones put you in a state.
Oh the joys of expectation!
Snapping at the whole darn nation,
The reason why, you're not quite sure,
Still, you sulk and slam the door.
Next minute you're whole lot better,
Becoming the worlds best go-getter,
Waddling round the livingroom,
Singing along to 'name that tune'.
Months pass,
Too fast,
It always happens at night,
That pain,
Again,
(It does this out of spite)
Oh the wonders of childbirth!
Think how many round the earth,
Are sharing your annoyed grief,
With that ruddy 'pain relief'!
Half expecting to turn round,
And find the nurse with a popcorn mound,
For people going in and out,
To see the show and hear you shout.
Straining,
Blaming,
Squeezing the hell out of whosever hand,
Swearing,
Tearing,
Sudden relief, strike up the band, (hallelujah!)
Just as you have had enough,
It has all been far too rough,
Suddenly you hear a cry,
You look around, and then you spy,
The most amazing little one,
Congratulations, you're a mum!
Then that smile for the first time,
Gives you a feeling most sublime.
I would do it all again,
If it brought me another of them,
As each day goes by, it just gets greater,
Sleepless nights grow later and later,
But it really is all worth while,
To be greeted by that loving smile!
