deep freeze

the sun shown today
and it was almost
pleasant outdoors
for the first time in weeks

tonight...
snow is blowing in sheets
across the silent street
christmas lights rocking
a blur through hundred
year glass

my porch windows rattle
and bare ivy twigs tap on
the upper panels

old man winter
has climbed into my bones
my feet feel like ice blocks
and he’s howling at my door

this is a “normal” minnesota winter
like we haven’t seen in a long time
and he’s telling us
bundle up because he’s back
with a vengeance

Pretty, but dangerous, just like women I used to love...except they were all sumer or springs...except for one...my ex. SHE was indeed a winter. Pretty but dangerously cold. LOL! Not that this poem had anything to do with relationships, but since when have I stayed on topic?
Yes, this is a normal one, to be sure. Maybe it will get warmer in mid-winter. Just never know what's in store. But the warm hearts in life make all of the difference.

    Indeed!

Over here, I'm writing winter words as well. I felt this one downto my little blue toes...

I felt pretty cold all day myself. It was 39 here today. I know it is not even close to what you are experiencing, but my California blood is thin, and my feet were like ice.
