It seems that
poetry is a pretty box
That subtly constrains
our heady thoughts.
((So try to scream
to draw it near
to wake up Hell
to show you're here.))
((And though unwise
you'll lock it tight
inside your box
it's out of sight.))
It seems that
poetry is a pretty box
that accurately contains
our shallow thoughts.
So open up that pretty box
that keeps you safe
from all life's fraughts
and paint your pictures
of forget-me-nots
like the ones upon
your pretty box.

You said if I sat on the couch I had to read something. I follow instructions well. lol I still have that box story somewhere I never posted. It's probably ironically in box somewhere. lol
I find poetry very revealing though the language can be somewhat elaborate and cryptic at times which could very well be considered a pretty box. You go further with the safety of poetry's smoke and mirrors maybe.
I've seen the theme of writing in any form being self-indulgent in your work before and feel it strongly in here too.
I can hear the last verse being read in a "sing song" almost taunting fashion.

Stop that! People aren't suppose to pay attention to what I write! You're supposed to say, "Good work" and be done with it.

Thanks Abbott -

Does that mean you're Costello?

It seems circular almost. Even if we open up our minds, all we can create are superficial words? Yem, you are so cynical!
I see now. You are just telling people to "play" with their silly poetry. I think you've insulted us all my friend!
