Golden Holly

Missing image
I had a vision Christmas night,
while sitting blue in candle light.
Bereft of strength, good will and cheer
with naught but loneliness this year,
a wonderment had filled my sight.

The mellow glow from candle’s wick
had sputtered pink and silver quick!
I thought my eyes had played a game
and rubbed them as wee figures came,
though startled, was not feeling sick.

The air was laced with fragrant mist
all cranberry and chocolate kissed,
and by the windows soon appeared
a twinkling tree with star that cheered,
this tattered room had sorely missed.

My soul had warmed as did the room
for hearth held fire in its womb,
and there above; as over door
hung golden holly to adore,
its glitter hues displaced the gloom.

Poinsettias’ velvet; red and white
replaced the dust on shelves just right,
as each soft petal held a smile
adding festive flair with style,
and ended loneliness’s blight.

It’s then I woke too much surprise
t’was not a vision touched my eyes,
but a real visit by fairies: three
that spruced the room with life for me.
This special gift; my heart shall prize!
