Illuminated candy canes, bells and wreaths,
cling to lampposts along snow-covered streets.
The night air is crisp, dulcet carols are sung,
from rejoicing spirits of both old and young.
Laughter can be heard throughout the city,
from children of all ages just feeling giddy.
Snowmen are built, some big, some small,
while a new batch of snow begins to fall.
The season's replete with a special joy,
starting in the heart of a small girl or boy.
It's a time to reflect with love and compassion,
to give of one's self, though it may seem old-fashion.
Gifts are exchanged with smiles and love,
but there is so much we're neglectful of.
The homeless, the lonely, the hungry, the cold,
the helpless, the tired, the sick and the old.
If we would give kindness to someone in need,
just think of the blessings we'd reap with that seed.
