The short days have arrived,
so has the cold and snow.
Another summer survived,
shutter the windows.
Turkeys lose their heads,
afternoon nap attack.
Jolly Saint Nick will visit,
toting gifts on his back.
It's all so damn commercial,
about the almighty buck.
The stores feelings universal,
load more into the truck.
Squeeze every last cent,
from thin pocketbooks.
Who cares they have rent,
or no food to cook.
And dont mention Jesus whatever you do,
the freaks in the world will jump all over you.
Sure they have their rights, just like you and me,
if I want to celebrate Christmas, just leave me be.
I dont bitch about Hanukkah and what the hell is Kwanzaa?
Sounds like an ethnic restaurant in Santa Monica.
This great country was founded,
on the Love and fear of God.
I am just astounded.
that on His name they trod.
I'm a God fearing man, proudly so,
praying each and every night.
And when I die, know where I'll go,
to be with Him in His eternal light.
In these times of decadence and depredation,
I look to God, cherishing our relation.

Yup! The commercialization is nuts! All the ads for cars and jewelry as Christmas gifts I find so distasteful! Hanukkah is a worthy holiday in it's own right, and a lovely, less spoiled one, too, I think. It commemorates a miracle also.
I have no problem honoring both holidays. Let's have a Menorah and a manger on out town commons.
Well thought out poem, Scott.

I grew up with a few Jewish friends, we get one day of presents, they get 8. Hmmmm....do the math!!!!

There are 8 days to Hanukkah. Seven little presents, one big.
They get to eat fried food!
All the glitz I see is Christmas glitz.
It all depends on how you celebrate, what's in your heart.
