"Pure Black"

A heart of gold,
Kind to the core,
No impurities to be found

Thoughts of the purest form
Language so clean it sparkles,
Honesty so bountiful it's blinding

Prayers said nightly,
Filled with thanks, asking only things for others-
Never selfish or conceited

A smile so radiant it dazzles,
Eyes so clear they shine,
A demeanor so innocent and care-free.

~

A heart of gold
(Gold plated,
With nickel filling actually)

Thoughts of all sorts,
Inappropriate at times,
And deemed unacceptable by society

Language is a little dirty,
Sex jokes said daily,
Honesty only applies when it comes to bluntness

Prayers said rarely,
Filled with anger and questions,
Selfish and conceited, confused and whining

A smile so rare it's a miracle when it's seen,
Eyes filled with pain and rage,
A demeanor so black it hurts.

~

A heart of nickel,
But with a golden core
You have to dig for

Thoughts filled with such importance,
Mostly composed of thoughts of work,
And the children.

Language a little inappropriate, but only when angry,
Sex jokes no longer funny much, but occasionally,
Honesty is important, but it has its limits

Prayers said regularly,
Filled with anything and everything,
Giving thanks, but still a tad questioning

A smile filled with love at times, but hides for weeks on end,
Eyes filled with knowledge, pain and love,
A demeanor somewhat pure, but black somewhere underneath.

Author notes

Just been thinking a lot about the term "pure" lately, in the social sense, the religious sense, and even the scientific sense.

Thanks for commenting on my peice Heart Failure, your positive feedback made me feel really good about it and glad that i decided to enter it! This was really interesting. I liked how it was like the two extremes then a little bit of both, the median between the two. Really really nice job here, I found it to be very well written, and it made me think a little bit. Thanks for sharing
