Where is the Ever-After from the Storybook?

i watched you get on that bus
that took you so far away
you told me not to worry
you would be coming back home to stay

i keep thinking about us
together all those days and nights
all the things we did
the places we went, alright

i know there were times
when we fought and i cried
but no more than the night
i got the call that you had died

there is no such thing
as happily ever-after
because you didn't make it home
and i miss you and your laughter

Liked where you took this - I often wonder where Happy Ever After is as well, as I'm sure many people do -

But then again, perhaps that's why they call it a fairytale, because it can never be true ...

I'm sorry for your loss, I can't even begin to imagine what you went through...

Thanks for sharing this with us

This past Saturday, December 6th, I watched many of my closest friends, including one Jacob Breland, my best guy friend, ship off to Iraq. They are in battalion 1-319th out of the 82nd airborne here at Fort Bragg. I want you to know that I knew what you were writing about, even before I read your author's notes. I feel your pain, ma'am, because I've personally known 4 soldiers to not come back home thusfar. I'm hoping that it doesn't become more.

Thank you for writing this for my contest, I feel truly honored.

i have had more friends not come home than i want to think about..with being a veteran myself...i have also known friends who pretty much came back but you might as well call them soulless...there are just here not really feeling anything anymore more like a shell so to speak...

I'm sorry that you've had to experience this sort of tragedy in your lifetime, but thank you for doing what you do for everyone.

i would re-do every moment of it too...it made me a stronger person...kind of took me out of the "fairy tale" mode a little bit too...

Oh wow! This is so very sad. I am sorry for your pain and sorry to hear that this is personal for you. You did a great job putting some very painful feelings into poem form. Blessings to you, Patty
