It Wasn't Love But Subjugation

She woke in a sweat
but it wasn't a dream;
he was still there,
breathing in easy movements;
satisfied.

Shivering beneath eyelashes
that remembered
his detached movments
along her skin,
she winced
as the black and grey evidence
stood out
like polished stones
that the ocean makes so,
from years of tossing and crashing,
its power undeniable.

He was her ocean.
