I'm still asleep in the arms of yesterday,
It's the only place where I find rest,
Just wallowing in the sorrow,
Why should you be that way,
An easy answer that proves
You'll never understand any of this ;
I can still smile when required,
It's an easy game to play,
To dress up the shadows in a mask of innocence,
Maybe things will change tomorrow,
So keep the inner light on for one more day,
Such cold comfort that stretches out for years ;
Here you are and here I am
Exchanging pleasantries and well rehearsed words,
I do still feel
Sometimes
Just enough to hurt ;
I can hear the laughter,
I long to join right in,
What fine trivial moments shall we spend,
The weather's easy and we sure needed the rain,
To be one with the shiny happy faces
Expert in side stepping the pain,
How intrusive is disaster
To rudely make such a mockery of it,
Just look the other way and it ceases to exist,
Sweet lies taste so pleasing
When you're starving for a change,
The medicine goes down so easy
When your choking on the rage ;
Here you are and here I am
Unsuitable company for the undisturbed,
But I still feel
Sometimes
Just enough to hurt ;
Yes I broke the rules when I stopped burying it,
But I just couldn't find any more room,
Too full of past mistakes and loneliness,
Not that I blamed anyone for running out on this,
You learn to hide in calm refrains or go insane,
To ignore uncomfortable questions
Like is this all there is,
It speaks much more quiet than it should,
I'm much too jaded for my own good,
But let's go back to a safe refrain,
Maybe things will change tomorrow,
I'll keep the inner light on for one more day ;
