There is a place deep within the soul
where in the confines of your mind
you can fall to your knees.
It is there you can be sorry
for whatever you have done
I go there often.
Too often I think.
In my mind I hit my knees
and bow my head
begging forgiveness.
Mostly for small thoughts and acts
that often lead to great cruelty.
Shortcomings that lead to folly
in my fellow man.
I felt that as I grew older
I would not have to come
to this place as often.
But as the years have mounted
I find myself here again and again
with a frequency I dare not admit
Struggling like a mole
who cannot find his exit hole
out of the cold cruel ground.
