and absolute nothing
All at once:
Televisions, celebrities
Men of God
Some God...
Gold, Oil, Drugs
and where is love?
for your holidays
while they step on food
while inventing flu's
and more holidays
Mothers and fathers
selling the invisible
saints and ghosts; then devils
to the plump kids
How about some truth?
How hard is it?
To write love on
a glass of water
To give up on your
afterlife of walking upon riches.
If there was a heaven?
I'd kill God first, and every
religious idea invented
not long after. It might take
seven days, but rest assured
there will be no rest for my
agenda.
I'll take no sabath.
I've never seen more ridiculously scared
weakminded people clinging to a heaven that
would let them kill Africa with AIDS, and pray
to everything but life. The Pope says "no condoms"
Does that make sense? Trillions of dollars
on war and failed economies (that we pay for)
yet no money for us to fix our soaring cholesterol,
or flouridated negative imaginations.
You get snowflakes and terror alerts,
and they get missing limbs, and parents,
how quaint
How will I love my children this year,
and not sell them on lies?
Very carefully.

This is very compelling, thought provoking. I keep coming back to read it again and still don't know exactly what it is that lures me in, perhaps your way of stating the obvious. Congratulations on the Gold.

-
-
Precisely.
-
-
I love the harshness in the midst of "pretty" that your message screams in whispers of "seek the truth" Some won't be able to see the point, but some will learn to be a bit kinder having read it.

-
-
Indeed, thank you, and merry christmas.
-
-
I find the section that starts "I've never seen more ridiculously..." seems to stray a little form the flow or poetic feel into a more narrative or conversational tone. While the message is still clear I'm not sure how I feel about that switch. I tend to agree with ed about the ending as well.
Some really strong stuff in here. It's been a while since I visited.

-
Wonderful! I really liked all the technical aspects of your poem. However, it was the message that drew me in and carried me along. I couldn't agree more. Bravo!

Very heated rhetoric

Beats hot plating smack.

i really loved this, especially:
"How hard is it?
To write love on
a glass of water"
very thought-provoking, keep up the good work -
There's a lot of good in this, a lot to like. There is a certain naivete to it, the fearlessness of youth not yet lost, etc. I like that; the fact that you can say "love" without cringing and then explain.
I don't think you should answer the question at the end, especially with something as neat and packaged as "very carefully".

-
People like to say god, whatever god they choose is love and light, then quite often say, Oh, god wants you to kill for god now. Mysticism and sentimentality promote a great deal of stupidity, Catholicism, and christianity (catholicisms uneducated little brother) do alot of damage and try to lay rules down about what it takes to be a good person, injecting their self promotion into the fold.
But how else are red knecks supposed to justify beating up people different from them without admitting openly to prejudice. Hmmmnnn...blame Jesus!
Good last question posed. How do you let your kids be smart and happy? Love them. Let them have some fantasies, but teach them to differentiate. Conceptually simple enough, in practice, a constant tight-rope.

i agree with what you're saying, but it's not your best work. you have a typo..sabbath

-
-
I think I'll not mention the spelling now...
-
-
-
Not your best comment. You can do better. And actually, I can spell anything anyway I like, just watch. Unlike you, I've paid my dues.
-
-
the comment wasn't meant to be insult. i like your work and in my opinion this not one of your best. that's it, that's all.
i didn't think it was a spelling error, but if you chose to spell it that way..i would be interested to know why.
-
-
Sure, whether I used two b's or 1 in sabath? It sounds the same. Your mind is programmed to make the same sound regardless of spelling. Jungian symbolism.
-
-
bullshit..it was a typo
-
-
Really, you know i've written three books, and edited about 50. With today's spell check abilities, only a daft tit would create everything right to then leave one flaw in a simple word. Perhaps there's a little Jew in you that can't hang with my blatant disrespect of shabbas.
-
-
you can't wind me up..it was a typo..no big deal, eh?
-
-
If I could notice patsy's scar, I could notice a typo. I'm an actor and a writer. I get paid well not to fuck up, and I'm mature enough to know the difference.
-

and you get it perfect in one take, too, huh?
btw, i like the new look. -
-
2 takes, just ask Richard Pryor

this is amazing!
"If there was a heaven?
Id kill god first, and every

not long after. It might take
seven days, but rest assured
there will be no rest for my
agenda.
I'll take no sabbath."
this is the best part of this whole piece. it is a very clever part.
i really enjoyed reading this, thank so much for sharing.

The God concept has certainly made some people lose their bearings... Frederick Douglass, the freed slave who became famous for his oratorical skills, said the people who were the most religious made for the cruelest masters... yet he became a Christian himself, in fact an ordained minister of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He realized the inherent truth and value in religion, but saw the avenues with which evil people could pervert it in its own name. There has been a lot of wickedness committed at the hands of "religious" people. But every day there are billions of acts of goodness and sacrifice because good honest people believe in that "eye in the sky" and a better life after our term in an earthly hell. You might be right. You're probably wrong.

-
This reflects some of what I feel about life and children. Maybe we are all a bunch of crutch bearers, leaning on a Christ, a God who holds us hostage by spoken and unspoken threats of everlasting Hell.
But maybe we need that, weak though we may be, we still hold onto hope for the best and faith that it'll happen that way.
Religion is confusing, life is confusing. And most of all it's confusing to try to make something of all that confusion. Maybe it IS better to not believe any of it and let happen whatever will happen.
I just can't bring myself to buy that, though. After all we have to believe in SOMETHING... why not God... just in case He's real.
Merry Christmas
.... no there's a contradiction right there... Christ and Santa ??

you are the man
Tell it like it is...I hope you get first place this was awsome. The truth hurts, especially when it's right in front of your face, it's sad the world we live in, in this time and age, but at least we can find some joy or happiness in it. Well at least I do. I mean really what can be done about what is going on, how do we make this a better place? Is there even a choice in that matter or do they program us not to see what is really going on, buy using the media or others forms of entertaintment to keep us blind sighted by the real issues in this place...Us. People are people and they are going to do what they do, love, hate, breed, greed, share, care or simple just not give a damn.

Excellent
