To dream a Dream of dreams

you dare me to breathe in the recycled banter
of my long gone, restless ancestors
to reach for all they paved for
slaved for
Died for
i dare you to oppress my inheritance
my light... my Darkness
you hinder my reach from peasantry
my biblical ascension
a trail of tears ebbs and flows
through a middle passage
of obscenity
you rather me disappear
and leave no Croatoan marker
no evidence of my presence
but how, pray tell
how can that be accomplished
when you are a seedling of me
of mine
my ancestors are your ancestors
resistance to that is futile
and you know this
your bones scream it
your blueprint deems it
yet still you deny
why?
so be it
drown in your arrogant ignorance if you choose
but let me be
allow me to breathe
to breed
undeterred
allow me to dream...
Undeferred!!

Profound! You have a way with words that pronounces your gift with great fervor. It is almost like I feel the words rush from your voice box with scents of authenticity and deliberate force.

    "allow me to dream...
    Undeferred!!"

Langston Hughes would have loved the last lines as do I.

    Brilliant!

    Much Love & Respect ♥

      Thank you...

I love to write. It allows me to utter thoughts from a shattered heart and a suffering soul. It's support like you and others have shown for what I write that allows me to continue to reach. Thanks again, Renee... and you too, Langston.

I know this is a poetry website, and many people are skilled linguists, but the first thing that struck me about this was the sheer level of vocabulary shown. Very impressive. Anyhow, i do like the poem, i assume you are talking to a child of your own in the piece, or at least that is what i got from it. I loved the way that you contrasted a sense of real agression with a dreamlike quality that makes the piece flow and then bark its message straight at you. Quality work.
