Mme DuBarry in high heeled shoes

1.  Castanets on the sidewalk, Mme. Dubarry's shoes,
2.  The moon, at the full, could hear them, and feel their pinch.
3.  Mme. DuB. smelled skunk.  She knew it was pot.
She'd rather have strawberry danish so she took the castanets
to a late night bakery, and listened to the canary in its cage.
The bird looked down and watched her
reclining on a couch of soft faux leopard
and looking out the window as people left the bars.
4.  Mme. DuBarry tasted velvet purple in the air
5.  as she walked towards Church Street in a pair of 6. Hush Puppies.
7.  The priest said midnight mass in the Church of Our Lady,
8.  then drove to his farm to shovel BYM
9.  Mme. DuBarry's shoes sound like castanets so she can play the mariachi.
10 She remembered her grandma saying "flaming nora",
11.  Mme. B. dropped the towering cake of snobbery years ago
12.  although she was as rich as a churchmouse after it strikes oil in Tennessee
13. but, next day, she held a hammer in her polished fingers, and built herself a
house.  It took about six hours.
14.  Tixie Belden helped with her building.
15.  Mme. Dubarry will move to the country and buy a dairy farm
16.  and ride upon a learned, talking horse and buy some fighting cows.
17.  "That moon up there is definitely made of green cheese," she said that night to a friend.
18  "But anyway, adios, amigo."
19.  "Adios," added her left shoe in its chatty way
20.  And the castanets clicked down the street.

Author notes

8. BYM is a British term for barnyard manure. I'm not sure if it is still used.

Mme DuBarry is a real person though I don't actually know her, a transvestite living and performing in downtown Toronto.

I love the chatty left shoe. It had me laughing out loud. Oh I want to be friends with her!

This is great, a real Alice in Wonderland feel to it. I love 'tasted velvet purple in the air' and 'fighting cows'. Strange images that build a coherent picture. I hope you enjoyed the exercise, I enjoyed reading the result. Thank you for this entry.
