Colored dreams

Do you remember when as a child
we both had a wish to go to the place
where books live with stories untold,
to the land where dragons are kings?

Do you remember a story about love
between a maiden and a shepherd,
about a terrible battle for life
between slaves and beasts in the middle of an arena,
(not about beauty and the beast)
when with fire in your eyes
and youthful defiance on your face
you tried to hide from me your pain and tears?

I remember your curiosity and your smile,
memories are back when as children we sat
to listen to stories about the miracle of birds flying south,
about fish swimming upstream to spawn,
when you found what became so clear to you -
Einstein’s theory that universe secrets
could be hardly revealed only with math’s help.
I saw you sneaking through cinema’s side doors
watching the recent musical of colored dreams,
and peeking between the fingers to Hitchcock films.
Was that you or only my false memories?

Yet, I still see you dressed with the white shirt,
(your mother carefully washed, stiffened and ironed)
playing on horses with no stirrups on the meadow
where gypsies tribe slept around the fire
covered only with the indigo skies, taking a rest
after a dinner prepared with stolen chickens
and an easy evening of wild music and dance.

Oh! Do you know that was a time
when I wished so hard to hold your hand,
when I needed somebody to trust,
to run somewhere... far away, to be a bit more
than a cute lass and a curious child.
To be a girl in love, to share with you my first kiss,
to blush for you and dream of you in the night,
to give to you a gift for your twelfth birthday,
for your love to give up my dearest book
and on its first page, up, right side,
to write to you my first love’s first poetry line.

What a wonderful pensive piece dear, so deeply emotional... *sigh*

    Outstanding

I loved the vivid detail of this poem- as if it all happened but yesterday. Childhood memories are precious. I thought this was a strong poem that speaks of the first blush of love. Best of luck in the contest.

Childhood memories make the best stories later in life, filled with innocense and discovery that shapes our lives. That first infatuation is always the most cherished.

This was a delightful journey, dreamy and whimsical, I felt as if I was evesdropping on your private moments. Excellence penned here my sweet friend!

Best wishes to you in your contest, this is surely a winner!

    love and blessings,
    Sandi
