What if the world were a village?
If we didn't tighten up in little clusters
of one or two, and maybe three,
could we open up our hearts more eagerly,
could this set humanity free?
If we had no barriers, everyone would
know each other, which makes hate
much harder to disseminate, I think;
allowing for a much more peaceful state.
How much wisdom there would be
to teach a child in the ways
he must go to be a useful, happy citizen.
We know peace would make happier days.
We are so far flung and unwilling to reach
beyond our boundaries and home.
Oh, the advantages of a village would
take pages and pages to write a tome.
In the push and pull and leaving out
we have drifted as people and as friends.
A knitted village with everyone involved,
upon this ideal our fractured world depends.

Nice poem,
Sad part is we are a village now (global) and we aren't teaching our kids. Hmmm maybe a kid exchange program. 3 year stints in a different continent until they are 18... -
very nice
I wish we all could just get along, but some seem to need to be in control of others. because of that we have wars and battles. Why can't we all just get along? Good luck in the contest, but more so I hope this idea catches on! The Shaker

I like the way you think and write, thoughtful words of truth and wisdom. There should be no boundries to our kindness and acpetance of others. Well said my friend. Write On!

too true, it takes a village to raise a child as the proverb goes and if the world was more like a village, I think society would be more tolerant. I hope one day that is true.

Amazing...
What a beautiful thought, the world as one village, all knowing , all sharing, a dream state indeed.
This brings home the closeness felt with the community here, among the groups we share and the way in which we can all be in contact around the world via technology when its used properly.
To be given the opportunity to do as you wish for within your words, but in the ways we have at present, is a great way of thinking back to the old ways and using them today, brilliant thoughts my friend, brilliant.

You have indeed described what it would be like if the world was a village, and in great detail and nice imagery

I think that you did really well, one of my favorite parts was this:
If we had no barriers, everyone would
know each other, which makes hate
much harder to disseminate, I think;
allowing for a much more peaceful state.

This poem showed some nice afterthoughts, i liked how you also mentioned the part about children:
to teach a child in the ways
he must go to be a useful, happy citizen.
it just goes to show that parents don't often do that enough.
Thank you for this entry.
