preconceived notions,
like waves,
break on
pale shores.
soft dunes and
sweeter places.
i swim in these waters
aware that in the past
i floundered
struggled
ultimately drowned.
but there's a calm here
beneath the rocking and the
urgent sucking of
playful undercurrents.
spun in whirlpools
and eddies,
i find delight in
unfamiliar territory.
those pale shores
welcome me home
without any of the
decadent images or
promises that
so often lured
ships to rocks and reef
and grief.
there's a beauty in the
simplicity of these
pale shores.
i wash up on them and
explore.
feel the earth
rise and fall
hot and wet
and fall asleep
lulled by a warm breeze 'gainst my neck
and pale shores all around.
Author notes
This is about finding greater satisfication in an unconventional relationship than in all of the bells and whistles of love and commitment.
