A Ruined Village

Such a beautiful village,
A pity to see so much pillage,
A village with a love for all things grown,
Now just a tragedy not shown,

Women and children escaped,
Now just slaves, beaten and raped,
They treated everyone equal,
Now receive only one small meal,

Keepers of intelligence beyond belief,
Now only keepers of grief,
For once a spy came,
To him it was just a game,

He gained their trust,
With lies, love, and lust,
Then betrayed them all,
Men and women, big and small.

Thus the village that once bustled,
Only the wind now rustled,
The beautiful food that lighted many a face,
Now, there was no trace,

The beautiful scenery everywhere,
Now sat cold and bare,
The spy, his story told with fear,
Left the scene, without a tear.
