Love Finds A Way

Missing image

As the father of the bride he knew just what to do
but today he found the tables had been turned,
his daughters grew to womanhood, he loved them strong and true
and now a deeper love at last he yearned.

The mother of his children left an aching in his heart
her death had meant a little of him died,
in the Autumn of his life he would relish a new start
with a lady that he loved right by his side.

His eldest daughter proudly gave her Dad up to his bride,
the little ones were bridesmaids dressed in blue,
the speeches warm and loving, the smiles were bright and wide,
the love between the couple simply grew.

My picture shows him telling his best friend about her past
and her children who could not attend the day,
but despite their aging years he just knew their love would last
and together man and wife, they’d always stay.

    Great Rhythm and Flow!

Your take on the prompt is both innovative and touching. It is also true to life. Many of mature age must and do find another lasting partnership. I liked your poem a lot!

    Stunning

Your words flow in a very special blend. Never know what you'll do next but I know that winters coming and I'd better wrap up. The chill and flakes are just around the corner to tell you a story. -c

This is so delightful my friend, we are so used to you telling happy sad tales that a happy happy tale is a wonderful surprise, a great take on the picture too.

Curmudgeon Jones here with a little bit of cleanup!

"the little ones were bridesmaids dress[ed] in blue,"

OK, that's my only critique... time to lighten my demanner (how's that for a new word?) and, like the rest, pass on my whole hearted rejoicing with you, your family and your poetry! Best wishes always, the new and improved and less crumudgeonly EarthToJim

This is simply beautiful, you are never too old to experience love..even after the death of a partner, we still yearn for that someone to see the rest of our days out with. Lovely

What a wonderful story -- how you found it behind the picture of the two men, I will never know, but it reminds me so much of my dad with his brother, after he married his second wife! Really enjoyed this one.

This piece just brings my nan's wedding back to me. She and Fred had 31 happy years before he passed last May. They were living proof 'love' isn't just for teens.

Aww... This is so bitter sweet. You have used perfect verse to tell a life story and you have done it so very well. I can easily see every emotion in the picture from your poem. Bravo!

    Love,
