She didn't see him until she turned around
but he was pressed against her spine
smiling, like he'd won the lottery.
He looked familiar,
like an apparition
from some childhood dream.
Then, she remembered;
almost ten years before this moment,
they were the hottest item on campus.
He whispered;
'I still love you doll".
The robotics of his voice made her shiver.
Stunned into silence, and hesitant to speak;
she glared long into insincere eyes,
and retorted; "how is your wife?"

Congrats on earning the Emerald Chalice! I love the life-like quality of your musing. This poem reminds me of an incident I experienced just las Summer. I love the last lines. You have a way of always giving that surprise ending. Great job!

Golden lines:
retorted; "how is your wife?"
and the simile:
smiling, like he'd won the lottery
I give you kudos for effectively rendering character personalities in such brevity.
Oddly enough, this sounds similar to something from my past.
Well done.
