jolly fat man skates the skies,
December 25th
with toys of great surprise.
A sack so full of wonder
for every girl and boy,
a world of peace and harmony
for all to share the joy.
His magic dust is spread around
and we're all under his spell,
across night's darkness hear the ring
of his merry signalling bells.
And in the world of reality
as we remember why we're here,
many young eyes of innocence
look empty, without cheer.
For a time we do forget
as we focus on our own,
as hearts swell with the love we feel
and not on those alone.
Remember why we celebrate
and spare a quiet prayer,
for one who was born long ago
a most sombre, quiet affair.
And whether you believe or not
that's the reason we rejoice,
but don't forget there are the ones
who really have no choice.
They are the ones in poverty
in hunger and in pain,
just like the babe born here on earth
you'll not hear them complain.

How lovely! I enjoyed the emphasis you placed on the more important side of Christmas. Thank you for your entry & good luck in the contest!

If anyone can write a Christmas poem without using any reference to Christmas and do it well it is you dear sister. What a brilliant look at the Christmas we always had before commercialism. We should be remembering Christmas is about family and being thankful we are safe and loved. I think I broke the word bank rule a thousand times in this comment alone
I predict something very shiny for you for Christmas. All the best
