"M.J. help unpack everything please! Stop messing around. You can check the town out later, I want to get this stuff inside before it rains"
My mom was always in a hurry to get things done. Never really understood why. All you really do is live and die anyway so why not make the best of it right? Anyway, we just moved to this nice new town in Maine. Its very beautiful, right on the beach. My mom travels a lot for her job and since I'm still not 18, I have a whole whoppin' 6 months to go before I can move out.
"Fine. But I'm only bringing in my stuff. I want to go walk along the beach."
I have always been a fan of the beach. It's so peaceful and beautiful. The sound of the waves totally relaxes me. The feeling of the sand under my feet is the best feeling ever. So I took all my stuff in and walked down to the beach. Its only mid March so it's still a little chilly but wow..that sunset is incredible. I walked along looking down for seashells and looking at the beautiful houses. Not many people were out. I saw a couple walking their dog and I saw a man sitting on his porch just watching the waves. He was rather decent looking. Lives right next door to me. It was a little hard to see him but he looked like he may be in his 30s and he did make a little wave when he noticed me looking. I gave a smile and waved back. Men in their 30s are more my type. They are mature and ready to settle.
I have always been way more mature than anyone my age. I very rarely hang out with anyone even close to my age. I tell my parents all the time that i was born in the wrong era. I listen to the beatles, Def Leppard, 38 special, anything thats classic rock really. No one really knows that I'm into older men other than my grandmother. My mother shouldnt be too surprised since her and my father were 15 years apart themselves. But that marriage didn't last long. She is 40 and on her 3rd marriage.
I went a little ways and turned around. I kept thinking about the guy on the porch. Wondered if he had a wife and kids and what he may have been thinking about while sitting there. I checked to see if he was still there when I walked by again on my way home. He was gone. Maybe his wife called him in for dinner. It is about 6 pm now. I went home and unpacked a bunch of my stuff. I think I got the best room of all. I have the balcony with the great the view of the ocean on the top floor.
I had my sliding door to my porch open for some fresh ocean air and was playing my keyboard while singing. Thats just a little something I do when I'm bored. I was singing a song called "Before We Ever Heard Goodbye" when I looked up and saw that man walking by. The same one that was on the porch earlier that day. I smiled and waved when I saw him look and he did the same. I went back to singing and saw him still standing there. He turned to look out the ocean and just stood their until I was finished my song.
When I finished, I walked out on to my balcony and said "Hello" and he turned around and faced me and walked toward my balcony. He said "Hi there, you have a very pretty voice." All I could think was wow...he had an amazingly sexy voice and he isn't even singing. I casually said "Aww thanks! I don't think I do but I try." We got into a short conversation. He asked where I had moved from and how old I was and said that we had moved to a good town. I answered his questions and of course told him how I think I was born in the wrong era. Just as he was about to tell me of some nice spots on the beach my mother screamed up the stairs..
"Mindie, your college advisor is on the phone!"
With that he said he had to be going anyway because he had to get ready for work. I said it was nice talking to him and I hope to see him again soon.
After I got off the phone I went upstairs to fill out some more paperwork for college. I'm usually looked at kinda funny when I say I'm in college because I'm not 18 yet. They had me skip 2 years in school because they thought I was too intelligent for the kids my age. I don't mind it. Maybe thats why I get along with older people.
I lay on my bed and wonder what that guy thought about me being in college. Then I realized I never got his name. He seemed like such a sweet guy. I thought about going for a walk to see if he was home but remembered him saying he had to get ready for work. So I just decided to fall asleep and see what tomorrow brings.

Excellent Opening and Setting!!
you spoke of this opening as "boring" and I totally disagree! You have set the stage so well for your story! You have written in great detail on how the place looks in the early spring of the year! You are excellent with your attention to detail and your memory on small items that you have heard in conversation that have helped to set this up exactly how you would see it if you were there!! Very nice job!!!! Love you!!!
