On My Mind

1.This continent is a living graveyard
2.And the tattered petals refuse to stay in mourning.
3.They flutter, blood-coloured in the sunlight
Releasing scents of regret over the cold breeze,
Which runs, smoky, through my lips
As I sing to strangers.
4.They look curiously at my alien voice.
5.Apparently, Leonard Cohen never visited Cagliari.
6.Maybe those roses really are mourning.
7.My footsteps know the path by now,
And my stomach knows the food,
8.But I long for the mountain-trails and the gleuten-speuten of home.
9. I never, ever sleep, so I have plenty of time to dream of them.
10. Zebra crossings are hardly even threatening anymore.
11. The strange teachers of English may never understand me.
12. I am inscrutable in my children's-book simplicity
13. That no one could ever laugh at.
14. Emmy never got her second chance at maturity.
15. She'll never want it, either,
When she stumbles sober through a New Year's street
And her rainbow-mittened hands can pull her love close
For the year's last, tender kiss.
16. So many colourless evenings have already been wasted...
17. I've been pondering the deeper truths of lonliness in a
Disassociated state of insomnia.
18. "Ma, andiamo, Tesora! Siamo stanchi!"
19. My electronic devices whine.
20. Shattered petals of this forgotten era are pressed into my journal.

"My stomach knows the food." That's an appealing image and you've come up with lots of other ones to end up with a poignant write, good use of the exercise.

Oh wow! This is the first I've looked at, and I love it. I'm glad you had fun doing it; this method builds some wonderful poems, and contains ways of using words that have impact beyond their meaning. Thanks for this entry.
