Flaying helplessly
Carried by tired steel
Crying to the heavens
Solution denied
Like bread unleavened
Shapeless hide
Awaits the transformation
From war machination
To the civil face presented
Outwards face scented
Remnants of bloody essence
Still linger on the breath
Of those who's job is death
The real wolf's in sheepskins
More attuned devil kin
To the drumbeat of war
Than the thrum of civilian accord
The trained warriors on knifes edge
Cannot unwind, budge
For fear of the abyss
Failure's kiss
Is the kryptonite of any solder
The greatest weight, Atlas' boulder
Carried for eternity, passed
From generation to the next
Never ending slide into darkness
The battlefields sweet caress
Dampening all things mortal
Opening the gory portal
To the fields beyond all time
The heaping piles climb
Or become another corpse, addled
With the burden none can unsaddle
Their burden for all time to carry on their backs
Those who rush to attack
The limitless enemy hordes
That rampage forever more
