The Weeping Willow

It arched it's long back
and extended it's fingers
to the rip'ling glass plaque
that eternally lingers.

It cries with the wind
and sulks in the sun,
unable to rescind
and forever undone.

Incessantly mourning
for what is not there;
yet every morning
incessantly fair.

Author notes

This is about a single weeping willow tree on a lake.

Very beautiful. I love the words you used to describe it, like the mirror, the fingers, etc... It's very pretty. Gentle, flowing, and deep. Thanks for entering.

My Goodness, you have no idea how much I absolutely loved this poem; Weeping Willow trees hold a lot of memories for me, in relation to one place, and one time of my life ; and this captured perfectly the downside of the willows; in that they are indeed called WEEPING willows; therefore one would assume that they are related to sadness. Yet their equisite beauty often leads us to see only the pretty side of them, and nothing else.

    "It cries with the wind
    and sulks in the sun,
    unable to rescind
    and forever undone"

That was by far and away my favourite part This was so exquisite to read; if I were allowing myself to applaud poems in the contest, I would applaud this one. Thank you for entering

I've always been drawn to weeping willows- they are also a large part of my past and trudge up ancient memories. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
