Never had I had a candle so close to my chest,
It acts as my armor, my protecting vest.
Working hard with all our might,
through the day and through the night.
The battle zone getting fierce,
at my men and I the bad guys curse.
The candle flame brightly burns,
as the wheels of trucks continue to turn.
Some men are dead and others hurt,
my men and I are covered in dirt.
The world around is peacefully still,
I think to myself "I cannot die, I haven't written a will'
Family, wife, kids and friends,
my life doesn't deserve to end.
I sit still as a stone,
next to me lies my commanders bone.
He too lived a life away from the war,
but now he is close but ever so far.
This game of war and hatred must end,
Together we must heal and mend.
Broken families, broken house, the horror forever will live.
To all those now and before
love thy soldier forever more.

Wow, this was really inspiring. I liked how you put it to a unique point of view. It changed my thoughts a lot around this topic. Thank God for Obama, right?!
The war is as good as done! That's a great thing!
Anyway this was very nice, you used good word choice and rhyming. I just felt like you said "men" a lot and I don't think it was really needed.
