Shadows within Shadows

Come with me in the shadows, come
Way beyond the caravan way
Drum out the fear and hear the drum
Play minstrel play; play minstrel play

Burn the candles ‘n smell 'em burn
Daylight is gone, this is your day
Learn the music that shadows learn
Play minstrel play; play minstrel play

Romance in shadows sweet romance
Sway to music, let your heart sway
Dance with dancers, join in their dance
Play minstrel play; play minstrel play

Come with me in the shadows, come
Play minstrel play; play minstrel play

Mairi has nailed this. An incredibly simple piece is some ways the repeat line being a repeat just

    works

The shadows work, a shadow sonnet for a shadow theme and I am certain a unique form. A shadow Kyrielle sonnet, well I never did!
    And it really works!!

    Thanks a lot

Oh to have loved in that time when one could be a traveling minstrel, sharing songs and poetry around gypsy campfires,

wooing some dark haired, fair lass, with words of wonder, sharing stone soup, and then dancing both vertically, and later horizontally, under God's canopy of stars. Lovely images here. I often feel I was born out of my time. ~~Artis

This really works. It's intricate yet simple, and the line "Play minstrel play; play minstrel play" has the feeling of a refrain more than anything else.

I don't know what a shadow sonnet is, but the real thing must be but a reflection of it;s shadow in this case.

    Love the cadence here
    nicely done!

Beautiful write, Amera and wonderful flow and imagery. I also liked the repeating line at the end of each stanza. It gave the poem a magical, romantic feeling. Thanks for sharing and best of luck in the contest.

I felt like I was perhaps with a gypsy camp, lit only by bonfire and torchlight, smoke and music combined and made a heady experience!

How do you make repeating words flow so well? Amazing. You've taken your already complicated form and made it more complicated, yet this reads as if it was done effortlessly.
