you plunged your delicate fingers into cool mud
and separated my secrets from that deep soil;
it was so goddamn dirty but i felt
purged.
...i'm dying and the world has muted itself to me
and this is what i'm thinking of.
god, take me--
carry me, i'm not long for the world,
and she always said that everything happens for a reason;
so i think i'm going to be okay,
she'd never lie to me.
deep breath, goodbye kitchen,
i could really go for a slice of that cold pizza
but i can't move. oh well,

Contemporary take on last words. Pizza made me laugh, but at such a time, illogicality makes as much sense as life. Thank you for this entry.

I wouldn't mind a pepperoni pizza! Ned probably would have liked one too. Well done and well written, poet. By the way I noticed there is another poem with the same name in the contest. Might I suggest you just add something to the title? Just a (2) would do.
