It was right there,
in that clump of bushes,
right before the big tree,
they found her - in May.
I meant to sink her in
the water, where big logs
rolled their way to the pond,
in case she floated to the top.
But she was so lovely,
with that black hair and
cherry lips that always shone.
Lips that invited you to kiss her.
She came out of Dot's Place
late one sweet April evening.
I nodded to her, but she just
kept those long legs walking.
So I hid in the shadows
and followed her down
to the dirt road with no
name, past Wilson's farm.
Once she looked back,
like she heard something,
but then shrugged it off.
The time was right.
Once my hands found
her throat and that silk scarf
there was no going back at all.
I'm real sorry they had to find her.
