The lap dog's sonnet

Missing image

I'm a chubby dog, a scrubby dog, a stubby dog, alright?
I never had an urge to be out on a frigid night.
I'm a short dog, not a sport dog, my tummy scrapes the ground
because I love my kibbles, maybe I could lose a pound

or maybe two or quite few, who cares, well maybe you
but dad's still glad to see me when his working day is through
and he's the one who feeds me, so I guess he doesn't worry,
as long as I stay loving, cuddly, cute and fluffy furry.

I'm a flop dog, a lop dog and mop of curly hair
who likes a daily tummy scratch and my master's chair
OK, I'm just a lap dog, giving sloppy smooches
just a playful puppy, still a princess of all pooches

So, if you are a lean dog, a keen dog, alone,
fine for you, but I was not cut out to run and roam
just give me my pillow by the heater and my bowl,
chock full of tasty biscuits and always brimming full.

Author notes

I wrote this for my little cuddle dog, Krysten.

Sure Az, I'd be honored. And, though she's older now, Krysten is still the little princess she's always been. She would enjoy the limelight.

I really enjoyed this poem alot. The rhyming and alliteration were very well done. You had my interest with the first two lines.

I'm a chubby dog, a scrubby dog, a stubby dog, alright?
I never had an urge to be out on a frigid night.

It gave me a face achey smile. Great job.

So cute..I'm a cat person, But this totally could of been about my cat with his fat butt. I swear he eats more than me. He is probably about as big as Krysten. Thanbks for this funny tribute!!!

    very good

Such a nice poem, it was very flowing, easy to read, and very well worded. I really wish I could get a dog but it doesn't seem like that is going to happen for a while. My wife would love a lap dog like yours, wich is why she can never read this poem. LOL I prefer a big dog myself. Very good write, I enjoyed it very much.

I got three lap dogs myself (2 chihuahuas and a Yorkie) and this matches them perfectly.

The poem is very cute like the dog and it reads so easily.

    Great job!

What a sweetheart of a dog!
Wise caution, we had the most uncomfortable
"come to God" speech from our vet....
    our pup was ...fat..fat...fat....
and he's been dieting ever since!
(lost 21 pounds, with 15 more to go)
    now' that's fat!

    your pooch is adorable!
thanks for sharing this heartfelt poem with all of us
    to truly enjoy!
    ears/Seattle
p.s. (he still likes icecream-don't tell the vet)
