Impressions

Lasting impression so compacting,
lay upon my life, so impacting.
Reminders upon heart that sting,
remain forever like scent of spring.

You came, we loved, you left, I cry,
footprints remain mid sorrow's sigh.
Invisible to everyone but me,
in my heart where no one can see.

Please lay dormant till heart lets go,
how long it will take, I do not know.
Footprints will crush my heart in two,
till somehow I forget love we knew.

    Oh My Heart Is Breaking

Oh Sandy I could so relate to this poem. It is so perfect for the contest but I also know with us both losing our sons that we suffer with crushed hearts. I pray for healing for the both of us. It is hard expecially through the Holidays and my prayers are with you my sweet dearest friend. Best wishes in the contest.

    Wishing You Many Blessings

Nice take on the prompt. Your usual flair for rhyme (I envy) they tie the stanza together with smooth movement. The sorrow's and sigh are carried with the reader. Good luck with the contest

Very nice, end rhyme is always difficult to achieve expression without giving in to the requirements of form, but here there is the genuine quality of someone in a difficult situation, the quality of sincere and heartfelt words here. Thank you for this fine entry into the contest and best of luck in the judging... PK

Ah, what a bittersweet sonnet you write here. It's almost like a folk song that records the sadness of a memory of a joyful time. Very sweet and beautifully written.
