Like a cobra,
She stayed calmed through the winter.
For I was needed,
To support and warm her through the night.
She lay by my side,
With not a single doubt.
I watched her grow before my eyes.
As she came to trust and respect me.
Slowly, as the seasons changed.
I began to face a monster I did not see.
I stirred emotionless in my sleep.
She was not there to bring back reason.
Then I entered the state of insanity.
For I began to feel a venom so real.
Days grew warmer,
But her heart remained cold.
She tensed,
With every innocent motion I made.
Her defense built,
No longer was she someone I could hold.
She slid her mistakes under the rug.
All I could do was watch the monster unfold.
For I was fearful of the powerful strike.
No longer was she someone I could just hold.
Her cold stare, sent chills down my spine.
As my veins became cold to her deadly touch.
I turned to God, in order to win this inner war.
Even asking to live, was asking to much.
Like a cobra,
She refuses to leave her territory.
Like a cobra,
She underestimates no one.
Like a cobra,
I was drained of her venom.
Author notes
