Secrets Of The Willow

Missing image
Silently she drapes her cloak
upon this holy ground,
for you'll not hear the moaning here
the dead they make no sound.

Yet firmly do her roots entwine
gathering all souls beneath her sway,
a guardian from the darkness
a breath of life she can convey.

Watching as the loved ones weep
with loss felt so intense,
as tears that fall across each grave
are now left with no defence.

Without a sound her tears fall too
for the anguish that she sees,
fervently wishing she could give some hope
but there are no guarantees.

The pleas from souls cry deep beneath
to join with loved ones here,
the sounds of grief drift soundlessly
a wish that only she can hear.

A zephyr whispers to and fro
as knarled fingers softly stroke,
soft solace she is there to give
beneath her willow cloak.

  • a good poem penned - ah the willow tree, it can evoke such great beauty and joyful tears but on the other side of the coin it can slide along sorrow's sensations.

It is easy to see why this poem won gold. It conveyed the picture from just that to something with a life of it's own. I had to read these twice, just to grasp the inner beauty of such darkness. Outstanding Gaylene. Congratulations on your shiny gold!

The Poem that you wrote was a powerful poem. the last stanza was my favorite part. It kind of reminds of a goust in the wind that no one can hear. Bravo.

I've missed reading and commenting on your poetry so much and it's works such as this that reinforce the knowledge of what I've been missing.

So sad yet so truly beautiful and overflowing with a feeling of compassion.
