Hastings Street

The addict,
never free of the needle,
still dreams

Through chemical haze
wishes from the past
cling with lovers embrace

Eyes search,
the sky is hidden,
the alley walls climb into the night

His self chosen prison
offers no pity.

Author notes

When I saw the prompt for this contest an old song by the group the Payolas came to mind called "Hastings Street".. In East Vancouver there is a street called Hastings street where thousands of dreams have gone to die over the years and if one drives down it on any given day you can see the sadness of the street in the faces of the people and the buildings- thats what this prompt inspired in me...Peace
