' Baby P '

Missing image
Have you seen the news today ?
Did you read about Baby P.
The child that was killed
there's such anger deep in me.

Just seventeen months old
beaten and abused
three people now arrested
they stand in line accused.

They broke his back, they broke his ribs
I'd rather say no more
but something deep inside me
shocked me to the core.

So many went to visit
to review this precious life
somehow those people missed it
the truth, the hurt, the strife.

Your god may live inside you
he may tell you to forgive
forgiveness died inside me
take away their right to live.

For the accused do you feel pity ?
I pity them as well.
I hope the bastards suffer
for eternity in hell.

Author notes

This case is currently under investigation in the UK. It is a very distressing case but caused me deep anger. I have marked it adult and hope it is acceptable..

  • Yes, what a shocking tragedy. It just makes you realize the sickness of humankind. So often we feel ourselves so enlightened and grand, but these are the things some are capable of. It is alarming to think about. Thanks you for your heartfelt pleas for recognition for this precious child and your outrage at such travesty.

Yes Baby P did matter and still matters. The cruelty in this world never ceases to astound me, it is totally unfathomable to me how anyone could hurt an innocent child, I just fail to comprehend the kind of hatred that one must have to feel to be able to commit such an atrocity without feeling the pain of this poor child. Only a monster could I think be able to hurt a precious child like that. Wonderfully written piece filled with emotion. Thank you for entering it here. Hugs, Bunny

The mandate for the contest is Poetry that Matters...

BABY P Mattered and still Matters even in death...

Thankyou for posting this poem in this contest, though I have absolutely nothing to do with the running or judging I am touched that you wrote of this poor baby, P stands for Peter by the way, quite why the goddamn Government sees it necessary to just give him an initial I don't understand ,for the Mother, the Boyfriend and the Boyfriends Brother charged only with neglect as they are each blaming the other for the horrific torture the child endured deserves no cover up.

One official sacked, two resigned and three suspended on full pay. Goddamn platitudes with attitudes, these atrocities all commited near to where Victoria Climbies sad, tragic and traumatic torture at the hands of her aunt occured. Those Social workers, the three in the dock, the health vistor and the Consultant who didn't examine the child " because he was distressed" all should be charged with neglect. Distressed? Jesus how would anyone feel if they had been systematically tortured, with severed fingertips, lacerated ears, broken back, and so on , more than 50 injuries, it is beyond belief that every single adult let this child down either by abusing him or by ignoring the abuse.

I do NOT feel pity for the three in the dock, nor for the fourth not in the dock, the girlfriend of the Mother's boyfriend, I hope the law is changed according to the campaign sweeping the UK, children on the at risk register need to be protected and Baby P, baby Peter was not. I feel your anger too, if all of us that are concerned add our voices then the Government will listen. It is tragically to late to help Baby P but we must do something in his memory and to protect other children.

And still the Tories block every vote for the return of Capital Punishment, if we can't have that then why can't we imprison these monsters for life instead of ludicrous sentences? The Mother was sentenced to 5 years and will be out in under two if she obeys rules inside and discounting remand, if someone had mistreated an animal like that they would deserve more than two years total loss of liberty, forgive the rambling, I'm sending you points for Honourable Mention myself, God Bless this baby Peter and may he rest in peace forever and ever Amen.

Bravo and I totally agree! This is such a shocking occurrence. I shake my head and wonder how people can be so base. The anger you feel comes through clearly in this.
Well done to you and all the best with this sad piece.
