Remember

Remember when we
had lain in the street, daring cars to
try and know us with their rubber wheels
and bellies of steel?

    They'd claim us as dead.

Remember when you
lit a fire in your bed
hoping to burn alive instead
of hanging someday?
You thought you'd live a little longer.

Remember when I
refused the right to speak
wanting people to guess around my tongue-in-cheek
to discover and uncover me?
I became a walking jigsaw puzzle.

Remember when we
had not seen the lights of our own eyes,
sparkling like stars in the endless skies
with a quick glance up?
Make sure the sky wasn't falling.

And suddenly, we remember everything!

Author notes

Granted, these are not our memories, but I bet if this were us, we'd do all the crazy things in the world.

I liked the edgy feel of this, as though you are daring fate to take you at your word, or as someone else commented, very aptly, "like running the razor across your skin without breaking it", just because it feels good to come so close.

i like this. it has a humble form of suicide. its like dragging a razor across your skin, but not breaking it. just liking the way it looks. the way it feels.
