Letting Go

Your fingers are wrapped around my heart,
Clutching and squeezing with every beat.
Blood gushes from the wound in my chest,
Covering your hand and slowly making it slip.

I seize this opportunity to strike.
Removing your grasp from my heart.

You throw your hands towards me,
But I am too far from your reach
For now and forever.

I have broken the hold you once had
Over my broken and bruised heart.
My mind and soul can now take over
To heal the broken pieces.

And as I watch you fade into the distance,
I will know my heart is truly protected.
For the scars underneath these bandages
Will ensure this never happens again.

Author notes

Just some recent feelings that I felt should be turned into poetry. I haven't written in awhile so this is probably pretty choppy, but I hope you enjoy it!
