I feel like I have to show outside
A smile on my face for happiness
In order to hide from you the inside
That is screaming and tearing me apart.
And every moment you are with me
I pray you don't look into my eyes,
For I am afraid you might see through them
Into my world of despair.
It's a world I try to keep to myself
For the fear of pity you may feel for me.
The things I struggle with on the inside and out
Are the things I must resolve on my own.
I do not want to burden you
With all my struggles and my fears
In this life I have made
I have brought all this upon myself.
So I will keep this smile on my face
And hide you from my fears.
For you have problems of your own
That you too have to solve.
