The words "I Love You" echo off the cold stone walls.
Throwing off balance though they lack substance,
Merely shadows without meaning, hollow sounds.
Remnants of the past drifting on into oblivion,
Unaware that their time has long since vanished.
Invading the fortress built around a wounded heart,
Laying forgotten amongst the rubble of another life.
What were once a sanctuary have become weapons of war,
Cutting deeper with each reverberation as it fades.
I am but a prisoner here chained to your memory
As tattered wings, torn from flesh, adorn the floor.
For no longer shall I soar the heights of the heavens
Where you dwell upon the pedestal you do not deserve.
Yet the tender words you once spoke haunt me still,
And despite myself I speak them back...
Taking solace in the silence that consumes me.
