I fear the sea,
There are too many sharks in it.
You love surfing,
And you're on some island far away.
I'm trying to figure out how the sea got between us,
But all I can guess is that you decided,
That the mainland was all a bit boring
So you wanted a different point of view.
But I shouldn't make guesses....
I like jazz,
it's unpredictable.
You hate it,
it doesn't make sense.
"Can we reschedule,"
i read in a small text message,
"Sure, till when,"
I replied...
There was no answer.
I shouldn't make assumptions,
but I think you're laying me off,
I'd like to know why,
But I'm afraid of what the last piece will reveal.
I want to confront it,
but I don't want to lose you,
I'm used to rejection,
I wanted you to be new.
But all I see is broken glass
I want to know : why the distance?
But I need to learn to swim harder.
I want to ask you to stay the night
But I'm afraid you'll say:
"Technically, it's tomorrow."

The gist was the same (It's technically tomorrow), so I'll forgive lol.
Distance can cause a lot of insecurities, especially when it seems they don't talk to you as much, etc.
Thank you for entering this piece.

Beautifully expressed.
Great take on the prompt!
This insecurity often hurts a lot. And confusion even more.
Glad to come across this one.
Best of luck for the contest.
