The Vampire and the Innocent-Chapter 10

This time I woke up on my bed. I hope Derek didn’t get too many bruises. I paused to admire the softness of the blankets and the fluffiness of the pillows. This was just a wonderful room. I decided to sleep in and not prepare breakfast. Then, a pang of guilt shot through me to be so selfish. Derek had tore through that hospital like his own life depended on it. He heated it up and everything.
I got out of bed and went through my bags of endless clothing. I opened the mirrored closet doors to reveal a dresser and twenty hangers. I hung up my nice shirts and coats while I put my regular stuff in the dresser. I put my shoes in the closet too. Then I noticed in a corner, a small foldable red laundry basket was present for my use. I stripped off my dirty clothes and put on my bathrobe (complimentary from Derek) and gathered all toiletries. I put them in a small bag and carried it into the bathroom.
Like the rest of the house, the bathroom had a coastal feel. Seashells covered the edges of the mirrors and alabaster tiles were put in. White towels were already in place. They smelled like lavender. I put the toiletries in the correct places and locked the door securely. Then, with the safety of privacy I took my bathrobe off and started my shower.
It felt very luxurious. The cold of my body and the hot of the water had a tingling war on my skin. It felt good. I washed my hair. It took 10 minutes. I scheduled a haircut in later. I kept the shower short and I dried myself off. I put the bathrobe back on and retrieved some clothing. I put on my undergarments except socks and slipped into some faded jeans and a black shirt.
I closed the closet door and caught my reflection. This was not the same body that my soul occupied before I met Daniel. Her cheekbones were striking and her nose was straight. She had no trace of acne and her eyes were still brown but it had a wild child essence within. She had a flat belly, which promoted her B-cup breasts. She had a small waist and big hips. She had that hourglass thing going on. It was hard to believe that this woman was me.
I looked away from my reflection and went back to the bathroom. I thoroughly brushed my hair. For some reason, I lost my curl. It didn’t bother me. It’s much easier to cut straight than curly hair. I smiled. It took me 17 years to grow my hair to my waist. Now I was going to cut it to shoulder length. My black hair was soft and supple. I took some scissors and found the place I wanted it to be cut. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 cut! The shears clamped down on my hair and made a nice, clean cut. A foot and 6 inches fell to the ground. I finished the other side quickly.
I looked at my hair. Surprisingly, it looked great. It bounced and it looked shinier. I squatted and picked up all of the remnants of hair cut. I wonder how Derek will react for such a drastic change. I pieced my hair a bit and gave it a little hairspray. I brushed my teeth and washed my face. Then, I grabbed my laundry from my room and knocked on Derek’s door piping,” Laundry service!”
I heard him get up and grumble about me being a loud vampire. He got dressed and dragged over his basket. Derek opened his door and gasped.
“What happened to your hair? It’s gone!” He was bewildered. My smile faltered, “You don’t like it?”
He replied quickly,” No, I love it. It’s just a big change.” Derek joked, “It’s punk!”
I rolled my eyes,” Idiot.” I grabbed his laundry and headed downstairs. Then it hit me. I called to him,” Hey, Derek. Quick question, where’s the washer?”  He strolled down the stairs and laughed. Sarcastically I agreed, “ Yes, ha ha. Very funny.”
Derek walked over to the inside of the staircase. There was a door I never noticed before. He opened it and revealed a washer and dryer.
“It’s just like magic!” Derek exclaimed it in a feminine voice. Then he sauntered into the kitchen.
“Hey, I’ll make breakfast in just a sec’ so don’t make anything.” I called while hauling the clothes into the washer and added the detergent into the mix.
I closed the door after I was done and washed my hands. No one wants detergent in his eggs. I met Derek in the kitchen where he was making coffee. “Yum. It smells delicious. Anyway, how do you like your eggs?” I inquired while shifting through the fridge for eggs, cheese, and ham.
“Scrambled, I guess.” He shrugged his shoulders. It was getting rather cramped in this kitchen.
“Shoo. Breakfast will be ready in 10 minutes.” I made sweeping gestures and he replied,” Wait a sec’,” he reached over my head and pushed the play button on the sound system. Some rock was playing so I exclaimed one last “shoo!”
I took a pan from the wall and put it on a burner. I tossed in the Mexican blend cheese and diced the ham. I was amazed that I didn’t cut myself. I added the ham and 5 eggs. Then, I sprinkled salt and pepper into my simple masterpiece. I retrieved 2 plates and slid equal portions onto the plates. I got the coffee, some forks, and headed for the kitchen table.
“Yum.” Derek offered.
“Yum indeed.” I agreed. I took a bite of mine. Perfection. “Do you like it?”
“Yep.” He was satisfied so I took another bite of my food. “Do you know I’m having the time of my life?”
Derek stopped eating,” Why’s that?”
“Remember any of my conversation down at the office?” I sighed.
“Well, yeah.” A pause,” Wait, is this the most attention that you’ve had?” He sounded revolted, angry, and disgusted. I tried to diffuse the situation.
“No, wait. Don’t get worked up. I’m just grateful, that’s all.”
I washed the dishes and then we were watching TV when Derek got a call that made him jump a mile. When he picked up the phone his playful expression turned hard.  When Derek flipped the phone shut he turned to me,” Adelina, you need to stay here.”
“Police situation. Blazing guns. Hand to hand combat?” I inquired.
“Yes, now I have to go!” He sounded impatient.
I felt that this was the time to use my reflexes, instincts, and strength. I smiled. “I’m coming with you.” I stated.
“Uh, no you’re not.” Derek disagreed.
“I’m going and you can’t stop me.” I said.
Derek stared at me then sighed. “Get in the car. Bring a pack. Put your hair back too. You don’t want it in your way.” He looked worried as I laced up my boots and put my hair in a ponytail. I put a blood pack safely in a zipped up jacket pocket.
“I’m good.”
