Imperious

Turrets of condemnation on her brow
and poison,
laced with honey,
dripping from her tongue,
voice and words...
Cool green-blue eyes,
chilled,
like water rolling off bare skin,
pale ice in
dappled moonlight.
Imperious as always,
captured nightingales in
rubies and diamonds,
dead little creatures, and
recorded birdsong.
Craggy twists of aspen branches
piercing through late winter
skies,
monarchs, swallowtails,
wings of ribbon,
echoing words once spoken
neverfade and everfade,
"It seems you're somewhere far away"
where are we all in every day?
Lace
laid on a silver stage for
coup d'état, a final curtain
never different, ever the same,
condemnation on her brow.

Author notes

A bit of a random one, but I do like how it turned out...lots of the images are just what I wanted to convey....However, the last 5 or so lines seem not to fit with the rest. Any thoughts?
Thanks for reading!

There is really really beautiful imagery in this poem and it is extremely well crafted. I had to think and concentrate on this poem as I found far more than just the superficial meaning there. The fact I had to analyse it is definitely to your credit as when I do this I remember and appreciate poems more. It's the perfect balance of beauty and darkness.

    "Imperious as always,
    captured nightingales in
    rubies and diamonds,
    dead little creatures, and
    recorded birdsong"

This was a sweet part of the poem. It was twisted enough to satisfy but maintained the elegance of your writing style.
Thankyou for entering this poem into my contest.

...whoa. That didn't send chills down my spine at all. xD Very well done Maria, I love the imagery and story. You're so good at telling stories, disturbing or otherwise. Keep up the great work, talk to you soon!
