I've often wondered,
Isn't it queer,
how you can love a person,
yet never have them near?
Never see their face,
never hold their hand,
listen to the radio,
sing with their favourite band.
Never look them in the eyes,
never hold them close,
laugh when something's funny,
"quinge" when something's gross.
swim in the hot summer,
play in the cold snow,
eat ice-cream in the park,
kiss under mistle-toe.
dance with them at prom
Call them your valentine,
give them little candies,
that say, "will you be mine?"
Never stay up late one night,
never drive them home,
never go out wandering,
around the park we'd roam.
And never share a hannukah,
or a passover feast,
never lend your shoulder,
at their relative's decease.
place stones at graves together,
pass notes in History,
share the times in Science,
or an English mystery.
Never watch them happily,
just read what they can type,
never hear their voice,
or away the tears you wipe.
Just read the lines of words,
and imagine their voice,
isn't it queer,
how this can be our choice?
Wouldn't you prefer,
to have a friend so near,
wouldn't I prefer,
to have a friend I hear.
But no, I don't understand,
how I can like her so,
when she's in Carolina,
where I may never go.
But she's one of my favourite girls,
and that may never change,
the times we share together,
and the gifts that we exchange.
They may be limited to AIM,
yahoo or MSN,
myspace or AP,
I'll say it all again,
She's one of my favourite girls,
but isn't it queer,
how I can love a girl like her,
when she'll be never near.
Please tell me what you think
