Just a Man...

*

It not important what you think
Some now hate me or what I’ve done
You may dislike my words in ink
For still this day, you are undone

An Irishman for freedom’s sake
I was not on a killing spree
We clearly knew what was at stake
Therefore, when hanged I do die free

We saw before what men had planned
Self-interest laid in deeds of greed
We did our best to countermand
Lay me to rest I did succeed

When I am gone, the fight remains
As others fight, we will not plead
To ever live in rich men’s chains
We fight to win or die and bleed

What is of import is you change
Our country cannot go this way
We only ask to own free grange
For we will never go away

Oh yes, you've captured Ned's spirit in this poem. I really like 'We clearly knew what was at stake
Therefore, when hanged I do die free'

Thank you for this fine entry.
