She wears her innocence like a dress,
that was made today
Frolicking around the forest floor,
so happy and so gay
Seeing life as though a child,
around the trees she spins
Condemning few for what they’ve done,
no matter what their sins
The town folk call her simple,
for her charming point of view
Yet, forgiveness is quite difficult,
at least for me and you
Her days are carefree as she toils,
in her shop of odds and ends
Meeting stranger’s every day,
who wind up being her friends
For life has taught her lessons,
to take it one day at a time
Trying to live in future tense,
to her it seems a crime
Losing all that she had loved,
a husband and small child
War has been an angry friend,
that stole what she beguiled
Though her faith does carry her,
as if somehow she has wings
To whisk her over troubled times,
shield her heart from harmful things
But sit her down and talk of life,
the reasons why we’re here
Clarity and genius come to light,
as if an angel does appear
Touched; by something wonderful,
a calming sense of life
That washes all her pain away,
and rinses her inner strife
So when you see her dancing,
when you see her heart so free
Join in dance and happiness,
she may share what she sees

This was so beautiful I had to read it a few times. A very heartfelt poem I can somehow relate to. I guess maybe losing so many loved ones in my life. Very beautiful story. Thank you for entering my contest and best of luck. Your poem was a pleasure to read this morning. Take care, Sandy

This is so sweet! It reminds me of like a fairytale story or a nursery rhyme. I love this!
