summer was intoxicating.
orange blossoms and jasmine.
heat and emotion.
comets danced then,
echoing our dizzying waltz.
bare feet. wet grass.
tailgates and headlights,
swaying to a tune we couldn't hear.
autumn crept upon us;
chilly nights in a season that should
have set the moon aflame.
our words whispered across
the miles, echoing promises
made under midnight moons.
now the air is older, colder.
pinpricks of starlight stand out
against an onyx backwash.
moment by moment, this is
all we have. we brave the
quiet, with familiar footsteps
to guide our way.
your eyes have grown wiser when
they meet mine, followed by lips
too warm for this night.
I fall for you again.
