New Witch's Chant

Sister, Mother
Moon and Sea
Call no other
Sing to me:

I will gather
Spider web-silk
Sea foam lather
Cream from milk

Chip of driftwood
Shell of snail
Leaf of monks’ hood
Rust of nail

Mix a potion
In a funnel
Pour the lotion
Down a tunnel

Leading seaward
In the moonlight
Swift as song bird
Dark as night

Wishes from you
Please be granting
As I keep true
With my chanting

For family
Long life and love
For my friends
What they dream of

And for myself?
Increase my wealth
Of family, friends
And our good health!

Sister, Mother
Moon and Sea
Call no other
Sing to me!

There is a sense of peace and acceptance of one's place on this earth within this poem, Lita. I'm glad your efforts were honored with the various trophies you earned.

It's been a while since I've read any of your poems, and after having read this chant, will have to check out more from you when I can. Great poem with great imagery, and it flows really well too. A poem worthy of its gold trophy. You should check mine out here when you can, and good luck in this contest.

I loved this! It brought to mind a wonderful book I read some twenty years ago "The Crone's Book Of Words" by Valerie Worth.

    Very, very well done!

Thanks for your kind comments. I'll have to see if I can find that book -- I probably enjoy it!

  • What a wonderful chant ... each word rolls off the tongue quite easily as each stanza passes by ... This is indeed a piece that deserves to be read over and over again ...

And worry naught on the last line for it fits perfectly ... sometimes we must do what we must to keep the desire of the muse, hmmm?

    This chant is magnificent!

Beautiful writing and done so effectively with rhyme and meter. Clever and very pretty, a chant that should be done in a film with beautiful witches.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I was actually looking at the picture for your contest when it came to me. I haven't figured out yet, how to put a picture in a poem!
