Life Is An Airplane

In your youth, you float above the sky
in the cockpit of your airplane.
All is well and all is right
the flight you take is wonderful.
Others want to strike you down
to crash your airplane to the ground.

Turbulence is coming fast
broken pieces of your sky.
Use the knowledge that you've gained;
be the pilot you can be.
Some planes crash in deserts bleak
while others soar above the sky.

Sometimes the first instinct
is to hit the panic button.
To lose your train of thought
therefore losing every chance you have.
To make that great escape
but it will require compromise.

Now you're on the ground
but it is not too late.
The plane may need some fine tuning
but there's no need to just give up.
You may be grounded now
but I assure you that you'll fly again.

Now you've managed to find the fuel
and you have fixed this broken plane.
Though you're fearful and uncertain,
it propels and starts to fly.
If you fly above the sky,
the turbulence won't come as close.

Troubles are inevitable
but you must learn from your past trials.
Know that you control your fate;
don't give that right to someone else.
If you're a calm pilot
then your life's airplane will fly forever.

Author notes

I hope this works. This is something I've never done before. Hope the metaphor isn't too cheesy.
I think it's a brilliant comparison. Though I'm not schooled in the art of airplanes, I do love great metaphors and simeles. Someone once told me, "the sky isn't even anywhere close to the limit." I suppose I used that line to draw this metaphor. Make of it what you will.

Pure beauty written in those lines. I can completely relate to those lines as if they just poured from my mouth and were penned on the paper. You wrote those so brilliantly, and had a great take on the prompt. You conveyed so many emotions throughout the entire piece, and you portrayed the quote wonderfully. Thank you for entering & good luck

quote: things happen, you know? things happen, and you can’t make them un-happen. you don’t get do-overs, you can’t roll back the clock, and the only thing you can change, and the only thing it does any good to worry about, is how you let them affect you. ♥
